What is Shark Tank?
Shark Tank is a reality TV competition series on ABC. The show features a panel of potential investors, which are called "sharks". The sharks consider offers from aspiring entrepreneurs and listen to pitches from entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking funding for their business, products, or services. The entrepreneur can make a deal on the show if a panel member is interested, but if all of the panel members opt out, the entrepreneur leaves empty handed. 36,076 have applied to become contestants on the show since 2012. Every episode aired has a flash back to contestants who have been on the show in the past to see how their companies are doing since being on the Shark Tank.
About the “Sharks”
The panel, or better known as “sharks”, includes Marc Cuban, Kevin O'Leary, Daymond Johnson, Robert Herjavec, and the Barbara Corcoran and Lori Greiner rotate the female shark spot for the season.
All of the "sharks" have their strengths but most of the entrepreneurs that participate on the show seem to lean towards wanting to make a deal with Mark Cuban. There is no clear reason behind that just an assumption that concludes that it is because he is the most well known in pop culture. Mark may be best known for his purchase of the Dallas Mavericks back in 2000. Under his leadership, the team's home games have become a total entertainment experience. He added much more to the usual game-day experience by introducing original video content, advanced technology and unique entertainment options like the Mavericks ManiAACs. His successful efforts have brought a sense of pride and passion to the fans, including an NBA championship in 2011.
Kevin O'Leary is typically the harshest of the "sharks" and doesn’t go for much of the fairy tale story but instead gives entrepreneurs the harsh reality of their company or fiances. He makes good points sometimes but also seems to dig into contestants overboard at points. As a self-proclaimed "Eco-preneur," O'Leary looks hardest for investments that make money and at the same time are environmentally friendly.
Daymond John is what one would call a true inspiration to all entrepreneurs. He's a real inspiration for anyone with an idea and the will to make it a reality. As CEO and president, John guided FUBU to a staggering $350 million in revenues in 1998 and is known as the "Godfather of Urban Fashion." He is regarded as one of the most sought-after branding experts and keynote speakers in fashion and business today.
Robert Herjavec has lived the classic "rags to riches" story. The son of Croatian immigrants, he earned his incredible wealth by overcoming the odds with pure hard work and intuition. His main industry is technology, and he sold his first tech company, BRAK systems, for $100 million.
Barbara Corcoran usually invest in the business that the other sharks have no interest in. Corcoran parlayed a $1,000 loan, given by her boyfriend 25 years ago, into a five-billion-dollar real estate business and the largest and best-known brand in the industry today.
Lori Greiner claims she can sell hundreds of thousands of dollars in minutes, not months. Greiner started with one idea and turned it into a multi-million dollar international brand. She is now regarded as one of the most prolific inventors of retail products, having created over 400 products, and holds 120 U.S. and international patents.
